Workflows: SMS node

This article explains the functioning of SMS nodes that can be configured as a part of workflows.

Automating the process of sending an SMS message based on the user action in the app.

Use Cases

Based on the actions in the app, users will be able to receive SMS messages for:

  • Confirmation
  • Reminder
  • Notification

Limitations

There is a limit to the usage of SMS - 20 SMS per workplace per month for the free and Starter plans, and 100 SMS per workplace per month for the Professional plan. Log in to your Clappia dashboard, on the left panel go to Workplace Settings > Billings. Select your plan, on the right panel, click on ‘add an add on’, select SMS from the list and proceed with the payment. You will get an additional 1000 SMSs per month.

Also note that one SMS message might contain multiple SMS segments depending on the length of each message. For example, if the SMS message contains 200 characters, it will contain 2 message segments. Special characters like emojis and unicode characters might further increase the number of segments. You will be able to see the number of segments used under Workflow Logs.

‍Step Name

This is the name of the workflow that appears on the left side.

To Phone Number

Enter the variable associated with the Phone Number block in the app or manually enter the phone number with the country code as: “country code phone number”.

‍Note: Only one number is accepted per SMS node. To send messages to more numbers, you will need to add multiple SMS nodes.

Select Template

Select a template message consisting of variables from the list of templates. These variables can be configured with the variable names of the data blocks from the app.

Request New Template

Request New Template

You can request for a new template if there isn’t one that fits your requirement from the list. Only relevant templates will be approved and uploaded to the list for use. Click on the Select template’s dropdown and click on 'Request New Template'. You'll get a form to fill in your details. We will verify the format and send the template to the concerned authorities for approval. If approved, we will upload the template and it will be available for use.

Note: In the Free and Starter plans, only templates from the existing list can be used. To request a new template, you must be on the Professional plan. Click here to view our pricing page.

Enable this step

This step is enabled by default. Disable this step to stop this node and all the steps below this node to execute in the workflow.

Set Template Values

Variables are displayed according to the selected template. Configure the variables with the variable name of the data block from the app accordingly.

In this example:

user1, user2 and link are variables. Type @ and select the suitable variable.

Workflows: SMS node

Fill in the template values with the variables from your app. For example user 1 is mentioned in the template as ‘Hi {{user1}}’, so here you will have to give the field name that captures the name of a person. For example if you were to use a ‘Single line text’ block for capturing the name of a person, then in set template values, under user 1, type in @ followed by the field name.
